Dear Family and Friends,
I recently accepted the challenge to help families and children by raising funds to support the YMCA of Greater Houston. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and neighbors.
As a volunteer and mother of a child who participates in Y programs, I have seen first-hand how the Y is making a difference in the lives of youth and families in our community.
My initial goal is to raise $5,000 to help children who would not otherwise be able to afford to paricipate in Y programs. One of the ways I believe we can achieve this goal is "Conversations for a Cause"; thought-provoking dialogue about important leadership topics in our workplaces and in the communities where we live, work and serve.
At the Y, we impact thousands of lives every year through the programs we offer in the areas of eliminating drowning, improving academic performance, eliminating chronic disease and childhood obesity and creating opportunities for social equity.
Did you know that a donation of $35 can help the Y teach a child water safety to eliminate drowning?
For example, last year the Y identified 24 apartment complexes to participate in the Y Water Safety Program. The Katy Ys took the program to apartment complexes to reach children who were unable to afford to come to the Y. This year the goal is 27 apartment complexes. The program is provided at no cost to participants. Since Harvey, there are even more families and children in need.
We're Stronger Together! Your generous support makes a lasting impact. Please consider making a gift today and support our efforts to make a difference in the lives of families and children through the YMCA.
