As a 16-year staff member of the South Montgomery County YMCA, I have seen first hand how the organization is making a difference in the lives of youth and families in our community. I am passionate about the mission of helping to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. My own family benefited from Y activites in several ways. It was there that my kids all learned to swim, participated in team sports and attended summer camps. The first job for my youngest son was in the sports department at the Y. My husband and I joined the Master Swim Team and trained for years in the sport of triathlon. The YMCA was also a supporter of a non-profit running club that I founded to help at-risk kids train to run 5K races.
The YMCA impacts thousands of lives every year through the programs offered in the areas of eliminating drowning, improving academic performance, eliminating chronic disease and childhood obesity and creating opportunities for social equity. We strive to offer to members of our community an environment that fosters personal growth, leadership skills and healthy relationships.
I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the YMCA of Greater Houston. I am a contestant/dancer in the upcoming Dancing for a Cause. Although ballroom dancing, to include a lift, a drop and the (Michael Jackson) moon walk are all a little out of my comfort zone, I believe the more important thing is to raise money for this outstanding organization. It is worth all the effort!
Your support to our cause makes a true impact, allowing us to help those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to participate in Y programs. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and neighbors.
Please consider making a gift today and support our efforts to strengthen our community through the YMCA.
