Hello. I am joining a team of my fellow staff members to run a half marathon on April 8 to support the YMCA Harvey Rebuild Campaign. This campaign will rebuild the D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA and Lake Houston YMCA that were severely damaged by flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Our overall goal is $12 million, which will cover our collective insurance shortfall and rebuild these two YMCA's better than ever. These two Y's serve over 50,000 people when at full operating capacity and provide financial support to YMCA's in underserved communities so our programs are truly "for all."
Brenda and I have made a personal gift of $25,000 to this campagin. All gifts given through this giving page will go to the rebuild effort. We have a $1.5 million challenge grant that expires 1-9-2019. Including these funds we just passed $6.5 million given and pledged.
The good news is that because of two strong construction partners, the McWilliams YMCA will be fully open in June and the Lake Houston YMCA will open half the facility in June and a new and improved portion of the facility by the end of the year.
My goal tied to the run is a modest $5,000. If you are in a position to help us in a more significant way, please contact me.
