I serve on the board of the Trotter YMCA in Houston. I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the community and programs at the Y.
As a child I went to Y days camps, learned to swim, and play a variety of sports. Now, 60+ years later I have a chance to give back. Those childhood lessons, learned at the Y have shaped me as an adult. I still love to swim, play sports and exercise. I recently started playing Pickelball at the Y. I am helping to develop meaningful activities for adults 60-80 who are not ready for board games just yet.
I want to tell you about a few of the programs that are unique to the Trotter Y. The Moving Stronger program developed at the Trotter Y is an exercise program for those with MS. Living Stronger is an exercise program for cancer survivors. The Preschool Program at Wisdom High School in Houston This program allows young moms with children to complete High School while their children are in day care on the school property.
The Trotter Y focuses on eliminating drowning, improving academic performance, chronic disease and childhood obesity and create opportunities for social equity. We offer an environment that fosters personal growth, leadership skills and healthy relationships.
Your donation allows us to help those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to participate in Y programs. I believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and neighbors.
Your support makes a true impact. All the money you donate stays in our community!
