Deaar Family and Friends,
I have had the opportunity to work with the Alief Family YMCA for the past six years. It has been extremely rewarding to provide financial education to many students and adults to help them understand their finances and long term financial goals. Through these financial education classes, I became more involved with the Alief YMCA and began to realize what an impact they make in the community. The Alief YMCA has always said they are a "Y for all," and I didn't truly understood what that meant until I became a member of the board. Each year the board members are asked to personally contribute to the annual campaign as well as participate with raising money for the campaign. What I didn't realize was that all of the funds that are raised during the campaign stay at the local Y. All funds raised are used solely for scholarships provided to individuals and families who would not be able to participate in healthy living/diabetes prevention programs, water wise safety classes, after school and YMCA Teen programs to name a few. The YMCA staff is also asked to contribute to the campaign. Many members of the staff are Alief students working their first job and are gaining the understanding of giving back to the community. Mike and I have personally contributed $1200 to the campaign this year and our adult children are contributing as well. As campaign chairman, I have been asked to raise an additional $2000 to support our goal of $73,000. The Alief community, Alief ISD families and teachers were impacted during Hurricane Harvey, as were so many Houstonians. The Alief Family YMCA has provided food and toys during the holiday season to many families as well as providing a place to gather and heal as a community. They continue to provide scholarships to anyone in need of financial assistance and this year the need is greater than ever before. We are very proud of the Alief community and want to continue to support families and individuals. A successful campaign will make this possible. I am writing to personally ask for your support of the campaign.
Please consider making a gift today and support our efforts to strengthen our community through the YMCA.
