I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the YMCA Camp Cullen. As a Board Member, I have seen first-hand how the organization is making a difference in the lives of youth and families in our community.
At Camp Cullen, we impact thousands of lives every year through the programs we offer in the areas of eliminating drowning, improving academic performance, eliminating chronic disease and childhood obesity and creating opportunities for social equity. We strive to offer to members of our community an environment that fosters personal growth, leadership skills and healthy relationships.
My parents introduced us to camping when we were young, and the interest grew for my brother and myself with scouting programs. One of my best summer memories was learning to canoe, cooking an entire meal over a campfire, and sleeping out under the stars. Beginning next month, kids from all over the Houston area, can make some memories of their own at Camp Cullen.
What makes Camp Cullen stand out from other camps? We are the only camp in Texas (and probably the US) with its own quarry. In the quarry, campers can explore fossils, participate in a dig, and motivate budding geologists. We also have the most diverse staff recruited from around the world as well as energetic students from local universities. Counselors, cabins, and canoes all combine with new friends to make those lasting memories.
Your support to our cause makes a true impact, allowing us to help those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to participate in Y programs. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and neighbors.
Please consider making a gift today and support our efforts to strengthen our community through the YMCA.
