Do you have a 'Y' story? It seems that almost everyone I know has been impacted by the YMCA somehow. Some learned to swim at the YMCA. Some played youth sports or attended a YMCA summer camp program. Some worked as a YMCA as a coach, instructor or camp counselor. What's your "y" story? I would love to hear from you!! If you do not have a 'Y' story, please read on and perhaps, start one of your own...
What is my 'Y' story? It starts when I was in elementary school when dad enrolled me in the YMCA's Indian Princesses. I love camping with my dad and learning how to become a "Brave." The Guides & Princesses program is all about learning how to become a responsible and caring person. I still cherish the memories I made with my Dad on these camping trips from 35 years ago. I continued my Y story as a parent, my kids participated and my husband coached YMCA youth sports programs.
Currently, I am a Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA Board Member and we help raise support so that others can benefit from these important YMCA programs. They YMCA does so many great things and it makes its programs accessible to those who need a little help. The Y is a place where everybody is welcome and there is something for everyone. There are swim lessons, youth sports programs, youth leadership programs, fitness programs for kids, adults and seniors as well as wellness programs for cancer survivors and for people managing chronic diseases like Diabetes or Athritis. There is also Operation Backpack where the Downtown YMCA provides backpacks to children at Gregory Lincoln Education Center.
Your generous gift will support someone to develop a healthy mind, body and spirit and build community with others. Will you help the YMCA offer these programs to those in our community who need a little help?
